Hello. I am Hadley Hockensmith, LA session player & fulltime guitarist for Neil Diamond. If you need quality fretwork at the most reasonable prices, I highly recommend calling Ken at A-Sharp Fretworks. Ken has refretted 9 necks for me (more to come), and the work was truly high quality with a very short turnaround time - what's not to love? I will be sending all my refret jobs to Ken in the future, because he does great work and is a pleasure to deal with.

Just got done playing my guitar for five hours straight, the action is amazing and intonation is perfect it sounds wonderful, I love the feel of the frets. Thank you so much, I will gladly refer anyone I know who needs guitar work to you.
Randy LaMora - Waconia, MN
Brought my Fender CS Strat to Ken for a level, crown and fret sprout touch up. He went above and beyond with some nut work, neck adjustment and intonation. Turned all that work around extremely quickly and my guitar has never played so well. The fret work really improved the feel of the neck making it a joy to play. I will be sending all my fret work to Ken from now on!

Ken, I just wanted to let you know I am really enjoying my 7 string guitar and Steinberger guitar that you refretted with stainless steel frets. The guitars play amazing and the fretwork is immaculate. I will definitely be a returning customer and will recommend all my friends and acquaintances to bring their guitars to A Sharp Fretworks for their fretwork needs. Thanks Again,

I have had my Martin D-15 for over 10 years now, the sound is excellent, but over time, the action became higher from the fret, causing me extra effort to play clean chords. I brought my guitar to Ken, who not only evaluated my guitar, but also inquired as to my playing style, to know the right adjustments to make. I picked up my instrument in 3 days and was amazed at how much a difference there was! The chord changes were effortless, yet each note was clear without any ringing at any section of the neck. The price was reasonable and the work performed was perfect, without any need for a second visit to make any adjustments. I would highly recommend Ken's professional workmanship, fast service and reasonable cost to anyone who is playing an older, quality instrument in need of a tune up! Thanks Ken,

Details of the Recommendation: "I was hesitant to have my #1 Fender Telecaster refretted but after consulting with Ken I entrusted him with my favorite instrument. I could not be happier with the results. It plays better then new. I had him refret my 1976 Epiphone with the same results. He has since fret dressed my Stratocaster and it plays like a dream! Thanks for your fine craftsmanship and fast service Ken! (Ken is also an incredible Guitarist)"

I have played guitar for twenty years, semi-professionally for the last half dozen and I currently play with multiple groups that range a wide variety of styles. I recently had Ken completely refret (stainless steel) and put a new nut on a 1966 Gibson ES-330. I couldn't be happier with the results. Ken worked a miracle on this guitar. When I sent it to him the guitar still had the original frets and it was basically unusable. Now it's one of the better playing Gibson's I've ever had. It's exceptionally clean work too. Everything looks great - even better than the frets on my Custom Shop Tele. I shipped the guitar to Ken from Kentucky and the total cost was still HALF of the local luthier's quote. I can't recommend Ken enough. No one could be disappointed with his work. Thanks Ken!
Stephen - Kentucky
Ken, you did a great job. My strat plays sweet, tunes up better, stays in tune, notes sustain great. Thank you!

I am a lifelong guitar player age 43. I have a small collection of guitars and have had work on many done in the Twin Cities Minnesota, I won’t name names but Brown’s guitar factory, Hoffman’s in South St Paul and with Leonard Shapiro. All these guitar repair shops have their strengths. But for Fretwork; Ken Koga A# Fretworks excels. I respect the luthiers with the degrees and diverse and professional skills such as building and restoration. I found the A# website on Google because I was researching fretwork. I was interested in the PLEK technology. I was tight on cash. I called for quotes but most prices were like a small vacation $375 and up. Ken Quoted a fee for a crown an polish that was half of the other guys. Originally I thought I wanted new frets. I replaced the bridge on one of my strats with a Blade Runner strat replacement tremolo. This is a wonderful bridge that adds to sustain incredibly. Well after this change I brought the strat to a guitar center to have a quick set-up. After the set up the action was way too high. Although the teck was polite and tried to get it right spending extra time it just turned out the guitar needed fretwork. So I called Ken. With busy work schedules I finally got to meet up with Ken. He examined my guitar, then asked lots of questions about exactly what I was looking to achieve. I was a bit anxious and he graciously let me examine some of this Guitars and work. So we proceeded.
I had in total two strats in which Ken worked on for me. One had a Crown and polish and the other a complete refret. Both guitars now perform beautifully. The biggest change I have noticed is the ease I can move up and down the neck. We’ve all heard the phrase, “it plays like butter.”
Thank-you Ken – I’m going to continue collecting guitars (and I’m a player too) and when I need fretwork I’ll call you.

I can’t imagine going anywhere else for fret repair. I’ve had Ken work on two of my electric guitars and the results were amazing. Ken was great in answering all of my questions, too. A-Sharp Fretworks is the real deal!

For guitar players on a budget, and looking for quality craftsmanship, Asharpfretworks is the place you need to visit.
I was very surprised the quality of work that was done in such a shot time. Was able to bring my vintage neck back to life.
Than you very much.

That's what my guitars are now, transformed. Ken installed new Jumbo stainless frets on my Les Paul Gold Top and my Guild Starfire 4. The Guild really needed new frets, they were almost worn down even with the fret board. After I got the guitar back from Ken, the work was so good that I immediately scheduled to have my Les Paul's worn down frets replaced with new stainless jumbo's too. The frets go to the edge of the fretboard with a custom bevel on both guitars to give me a more playable axe, versus the plastic nibs on a typical bound fretboard that actually restrict how much fret you can use (Ken encourages you to get exactly the frets and shape you want...cool). He has a custom neck with all the different fret sizes on it, so I could choose exactly what frets I wanted, very helpful.
Leveled and buffed the frets on my two Warmoth "partscasters". They have never played so well. It's like I have all new custom luthier quality instruments now. I never knew what a difference a fret dressing and polish could make to an instrument.
Ken also fitted a custom bone nut on the Starfire 4. Very nice work on that as well.
Overall an A+. The price is right and turn-around was quick too.

Ken did some fret work and a set up on my Fender Strat a few weeks ago and completed the job on schedule at more that a reasonable price. I joke with him that it plays so easily now that all I have to do is plug it in and it almost plays by itself. Good job and thanks, Ken.
Dave Hamm (Bird Dogs) - Edina, MN
Just had Ken re-fret one of my favorite old guitars. I'm super happy with the result. Ken and I talked at length about my playing style and what kind of frets would work best. The result is that my guitar feels great in my hands and under my fingers. I'm very impressed with the quality of his work It shows that he took his time working on it. I can not recommend him highly enough. Thanks again Ken.
Mike Marston - Minneapolis, MN
I picked up a Squier Tele a few years ago and while I loved the guitar, the fret-end finish left a lot to be desired, and actually drew blood at a couple of gigs in the driest of Minnesota winters. I took it to Ken to smooth things out a bit, and after some filing, polishing, leveling and setup, this thing plays better than any Tele I've had my hands on. Great work Ken - I'll be back!
Kenny Carson - Victoria, MN
Ken literally transformed my guitar. He's a true craftsman and genuinely cares about doing the best job possible. I'm absolutely thrilled.
Carmelo Washburn - Mineeapolis, MN
Ken, Just wanted to let you know that I'm really happy with the guitar. What a difference! Thanks again.

The re-fret that Ken did was flawless. I live in Central New York and shipped my guitar to him.
In about a week he had returned it and I was amazed at the quality of his work. I would trust him completely.
Ken,I just wanted to let you know,I received my Les Paul today, and have had about 3 hours to try it out.Your fret work, fret board work, setup, and attention to detail is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING,to say the least. You took a mediocre guitar and made it a SSSSUPER PLAYER!!! The jumbo frets you installed are a perfect hand fit for my style of playing.I have the Greatest Admiration of your work and the work you've done for me.A special thank you for helping with return shipping,I feel you go beyond the normal to make a happy customer. That is what makes you the Best of the Best. Many thanks, and I will be a repeat customer, for sure!

I had an idea for some unusual custom fretwork on my bass and Ken did a perfect job. Of course it plays a little better now after he put a new nut on. My bass can really sing now. Thanks Ken.
Jay Johnson - Owatonna, Mn.
I recently had an acoustic and electric worked on by Ken. I must say Ken did a fantastic job. The turnaround time was way faster than Ken quoted me. The price point was fantastic as well. Ken took the time to answer all of my questions. Silly or otherwise. You'll feel extremely comfortable with him and his work is second to none. Thanks Ken the action on my guitars are perfect.
Mike Neuman – Anoka, MN
I needed a complete refret for my acoustic guitar and I wanted to find a place that could do it for a good price, do a quality job, and get it back in a reasonable amount of time. A# Fretworks was exactly what I was looking for and then some. Easily the best price for the job in the Twin Cities by a lot, and Ken made my instrument sound like new. He also got a back a couple days earlier than I expected. I won't be doing getting my instruments taken care of anywhere else from now on. Thanks again for the great work on my guitar. It sounds great.
Mike Vanden Oever – Minneapolis, MN
I am thrilled with the work the work Ken Koga performed on my guitar. The fret work is just as a good as new, if not better. I would not hesitate to recommend Ken to anyone. The turn around time was less than a week!
Ron Le Blanc – White Bear Lake, MN
Mr. Ken Koga of A# Fretworks did an excellent job replacing all the frets on my acoustic guitar and my husband's electric bass. The guitars sound and look great, at a really great price, and Mr. Koga was very easy to work with. He made sure that all my questions were answered and I knew just what he planned to do. The work was done just when he said it would be too. Thanks, Ken!
Gina Frances Wood (Orange Whip) – Minneapolis, MN
I'd long wanted to have a fretless bass, so I purchased a '92 Fender Jazz fretless that I really liked, but it had some deep ruts in the fingerboard. Ken did an outstanding job leveling the fingerboard and also re-routing the ground wire -- result: without breaking the bank, I now have an excellent fretless bass that looks and sounds fantastic, and gets noticed! Ken does great work at a great price.
Keith Friede - Minneapolis, MN
I just wanted to say thanks again for the great job you did on my guitar. I was very impressed with the quality of your work and appreciate the effort you put into cleaning and repairing the headstock. The old Guild not only looks so much better but with the improved action plays more comfortably as well. I'm spreading the word telling all the players I know.
Gerry Molosky - Minneapolis, MN
Ken did a GREAT job with my 1968 Yamaha FG150 guitar. I wasn't sure if I wanted to fix the guitar but being it was a birthday gift from my dad, I decided to keep it and fix it up. I'm glad I did. It sounds great after the frets and nut replacement, sanding and cleaning the fretboard, and a string height adjustment. For me, it was a good decision to keep and repair my old guitar. Thanks Ken...
Rick Lockhart - Minneapolis, MN
Ken, thank you for the prompt service and quality work -- turnaround time for the nut and stainless steel fret installation was much quicker than I expected. I appreciate your patience with all of my questions and helpful setup pointers to get my guitar playing the best that it possibly can. From my experience, there have only been a handful of people such as yourself that have provided excellent customer service where they took the time to answer all of my questions without making me feel that I was imposing on them -- thanks again for the great work!
Joe Keena - WI
Ken; Nice job, bolted it up and with a little adjustment it was ready to play. I'm happy with my fret wire choice. . . the nut is cut just right. There seems to be the right amount of camber in the neck right now, I'm going to wait a week before any truss rod adjustment. Again nice workmanship and I will pass along your great service.
David Harris - Hailey, ID
A# Sharp Fretwork is a great service. There are many shops and people closer that might want to work on my instruments... Why take it somewhere else, getting it done right. A# Sharp Fretwork is a professional quality everything at a fraction of the price. Face to face interaction from a caring individual and a great final product.
